God Is a Good God: Learning from the Lord’s Prayer

Episode Summary

In this episode, I reflect on Session Two of the When You Pray Bible study, which takes a deep look at the Lord’s Prayer—beginning and end—and what it means for God to truly be the Alpha and Omega in our lives. I explore the four ways Scripture describes who God is, ask hard questions about whether I really believe His promises, and share how Psalm 119:33–40 challenges me to live a life of obedience, humility, and faith. We talk about what it means to be teachable, to listen to the Holy Spirit, and to see God as both personal and good—even when life doesn’t go the way we planned. From living a quiet life, to minding your own business, to working with your hands, I unpack the daily disciplines that help keep our hearts aligned with Him. This is a conversation about seeing God’s goodness in every season, letting Him redefine your understanding of provision, and applying these truths in a way that transforms your week.

Hi, I'm so happy you're here. Welcome to Chai Beauty, where I get to share my thoughts, my dreams, my aspirations, my visions for the future. And guess what? You get to be along for this journey because we are in this together.
So here we are. I am going to start with session two, and she talks about the Lord's Prayer, but what's significant about it is she starts at the beginning and the end, and I'm reminded of Alpha and Omega that he's the beginning and the end for me and. When she talks about what it God is and put a name to it.
And again, I don't wanna give you all this information 'cause I really want you to, to read this book because it is life changing. It requires you to challenge your thought process with things make. Don't make assumptions. Read what it says, and I don't know about you, but that can be difficult for me. I like a formula, like I like a beginning.
I like a middle. I like knowing that two plus two equals four. Then when you. Learn life. It gets a little complicated, but you can still remember two plus two is four, and then you start learning about to the fifth or to the fourth power. But there's a number that will always get you to what, four. And I had to think in process the way she said who God is, because he's to the, like in that section, she gives us four things.
He did. He's. He is. And as I thought in listening to her talk about these four things, I say, do I even believe what she's saying? Are there moments in my life that I'm saying, yes, he did that? Yes, I saw it. Yes, I believe him. And yes, I have faith that he will do it again. And if I'm honest with you. No, when I'm at the pits of just trying to figure it out, trying to see God, trying to hear from him, trying to, babe, just trying to understand like why we are doing what we're doing.

It's, it's challenging and I love the book because she just starts with the basic of who he is and gives you four ways. And then as I learn who he is, I'm taking to Psalms 1 19 33 through 40 and it says, teach me your decree. Oh Lord. I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions.
I will put them in practice with all my heart. Make me walk along the path of your commandment. Your command for that is where my happiness is found. Give me an earnest for your law rather than a love for money. And that's hard for me 'cause I'd be looking for my next paycheck. Turn my eyes from workless things and give me life through your words.
Rest assure me of your promises. So then I have to read and learn his promises made to those who fear you. Help me abandon my shameless ways for your regulations are good. I long to obey your commandments. Renew my life with goodness. So I ask you as you take on this book, or just listen to what I have to say.
Have you seen goodness in God? Are you obeying his commandments? Do you have fear of his punishments? Do you even believe his promises? Do you know his commandments? And do you follow instructions?
Can he even teach you? Are you teachable? And do you really wanna learn how to pray? Because to learn how to pray and to commune with God, you have to be willing to let him teach you. And I. Honestly have challenges with that, but I'm trying,
and what I mean about challenges is. I had to remember why I fear God. I had to remember that he loves us just like our parents. So when we are doing something wrong, he has grace for us and mercy. But at the same time, because he doesn't want us to stumble and fall, he has to correct behavior, which is why he asks us to.

Lean on not our own understanding, but his. And then ask for wisdom because if you have her, you have, you won't stumble. Then he says, I also giving you a guide, the Holy Spirit. And if the Holy Spirit is the guide, he only, the Holy Spirit only speaks when God tells him to speak. He'll only talk to you. When God tells you, he'll only guide you when God tells you and you're like, cha, you said that just three different ways.
But I just wanna know, like if you hear the Holy Spirit and you're confident in the Holy Spirit, you know it's of God and you know you can't stumble, you know that you'll have the knowledge of understanding. You know you'll have the seven spirits, right? 'cause you have understanding and knowledge and wisdom.
I don't know the other seven. So I can look those up for us because I don't know those off the top of my head. And also I don't write, um, it down. I'm not a write it down type of girl. Um, I'm more like, if I'm going to say something, I want to say it, um, from my no. And I want to be authentic and I wanna be genuine.
So with the Lord, he has understanding his power, the fear of the Lord, knowledge and counsel 'cause. And it's in revelations that they talk about the seven spirits of God. And these are also names for God. So if I'm asking for God for wisdom and messing the Lord for understanding, like I'm coming to his throne and I'm laying on a altar because me, myself.
I don't have it. Like, I'm not really like, cool, great. Um, I think it's, and when he has all these things that he's known to do and have, then I have to be like, I have to ask myself, God, are you a good God? And do I believe that you're a good God? Even when things aren't working out the way that I believe they should work out, or I believe, yeah, we should go left and then, right, and God's like, no, you just cut through.
I'm like, there's trees there, God like. Why do I need to cut through when there's a complete forest and you don't know that a person's out there with a wi, I think it's called a whit white hair, knocking down trees and replanting 'em. 'cause we believe in social responsibility over here. So they're just moving the trees or they're like just digging them up and moving them so that you could have a path.
When I think about the goodness of the Lord, I'm reminded that people always refer to like God as a tree. And so if God is the roots of everything, and then his word is the stem and we are branches, and what we produce are the fruits of the relationship we have with him. And if we don't have a relationship, we don't, we basically don't produce free or we produce fruit of the world that isn't sustainable.
And we'll be called to judgment to talk about what we produce. And that just got a lot deep. Um, and I'm thinking about that. And so I can think about moments in my life that I'm now 20 and eight, turning 29. And there were moments where people just really hurt me, like I was just hurt as an individual. I was hurt, and God used that hurt to help mold me until a person that has very much a lot of compassion for others because I don't know where they are, but I know.
Where I was in that season, and I know what I needed to be successful in that season. And if somebody couldn't give it to me, maybe I can give it to someone else. And if God tells me to love my neighbor, great, but there's more to that. Not only do I have to love my neighbor, I have to love them more than I love myself and baby.
I love myself so much. Like I try to provide the best of the best for myself. And I also try to follow God's scripture where it says, like, all he wants us to do is live a quiet life. Mind a business, drink your water, girl and boy, and thee and them, and work with your hands. If I were to do, do you know how hard those three things are?
First of all, to live a quiet life. So that means no gossip, no messing, just be in the word. Go work. Go home. Watch a little tv, but make sure it's not a idol. That's kind of hard. 'cause sometimes you just get a rhythm in a room and it just becomes a routine that you don't even realize. Like it replaces something right.
Then to mind your business. That's relatively easy. I feel like for me it's relatively easy because I. God has cultivated friendships that like it's very much, how are you? Are you good? How can I help you in this season? What do you need me to pray for you in this season? Oh, you're not doing what you're supposed to.
How can we get you back on track? What did God tell you? Did you pray about this? Oh, you didn't pray about this. Then why we talk about this? How about you go pray about it? Then you come back. Also, I put this at the alter ca. If you put it at alter, you need to let it go. Like we don't need to hear about it no more.
Because you told me you put it at the altar. Clearly you haven't put it at the altar. If we talking about it in less than 24 hours, what did Jesus say about it? So that's minding your business. Then working with your hands, we're just in modern times, working with your hands can look so differently. Uh, working with your hands could be a carpenter or social con, uh, a social media contractor or just a social media person.
Um, and then you have to lean, but you also have to figure out what does it look like to glorify God in those seasons of doing those three aspects. When you're doing those three aspects, you also have to ask yourself like not only is he a good God, is he a personable God, is he a provisioned, like does he pro provision for you?
Does he, does he even give to you? Like, these are the questions that I ask when I'm minding my business and I'm in his word and I just am so confused. But then I remembered he's such a good God, and in session two he just talks about the Lord. She just talks about the Lord, prayer and what it means for God to be a good God.
So I encourage you to pick up this book. I encourage you to change your life and apply these things because you are getting true application throughout the week. So remember, God is a good God.
